Lesson 2.8 Writing Fractions as Decimals

Activity Objective:

Students will write fractions as decimals by dividing the numerator by the denominator. Students will also recognize that when the denominator has only 2 and/or 5 as prime factors, the decimal will terminate. Denominators that have prime factors other than 2 and/or 5 will repeat.

Previous Learning:
Students have represented common fractions (halves, fourths, and tenths) as decimals in previous grades. Students should know that a decimal that ends is a terminating decimal.
